A CLEAR, SUPPORTED START

From interest to impact

We want every volunteer to feel prepared, valued, and connected to the mission.

01

Share your interests

Tell us about your skills, availability, location, accessibility needs, and preferred ways to serve.

02

Connect with our team

A coordinator will review your request and contact you within 5–7 business days about possible next steps.

03

Prepare to serve

Complete any role-specific orientation, screening, and confidentiality requirements before your assignment.

Placement is thoughtful, not automatic. Opportunities are based on program needs, availability, location, role fit, supervision capacity, and applicable screening. Some roles involving children, sensitive information, finances, or direct family support may require training, confidentiality agreements, reference checks, or background screening.

WHO CAN GET INVOLVED

There is more than one way to serve.

We welcome people with different schedules, abilities, backgrounds, and levels of experience. We will help identify an appropriate opportunity when one is available.

18+

Adult volunteers

One-time, seasonal, virtual, event-based, and ongoing service opportunities.

YOUTH

Students and families

Selected supervised projects with age-appropriate roles and guardian permission when required.

TEAMS

Groups and organizations

Coordinated projects for schools, employers, faith communities, healthcare teams, and civic groups.

Accessible participation

Tell us what you need. We will make reasonable efforts to support accessibility and equitable participation.

Respectful service

Volunteers receive clear guidance on privacy, dignity, cultural humility, and person-first support.

No clinical pressure

Non-clinical volunteers are never asked to provide medical advice or perform clinical responsibilities.

OUR COMMITMENT TO VOLUNTEERS

Prepared to help. Supported to succeed.

A strong volunteer program protects the people we serve and respects the people who give their time.

Clear responsibilities

You will know your role, point of contact, time commitment, and boundaries before serving.

Meaningful orientation

Training is matched to the assignment, including privacy, safety, dignity, and escalation procedures.

Inclusive participation

We welcome accommodation requests and make reasonable efforts to support equitable participation.

Responsible stewardship

Volunteer information is used for coordination, screening, safety, and program administration.

BRING YOUR TEAM

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Before you volunteer

Quick answers about eligibility, placement, virtual service, groups, and volunteer-role boundaries.

Do I need healthcare or sickle cell experience? +

No. Many roles require only compassion, reliability, and a willingness to learn. Specialized roles will clearly identify any required credentials or experience.

Can I volunteer virtually? +

Yes. Virtual opportunities may include outreach, research support, content creation, administrative projects, and digital advocacy. Availability depends on current program needs.

Can students or volunteers under 18 participate? +

Some supervised projects may welcome youth volunteers with permission from a parent or legal guardian. Age requirements vary by activity and will be confirmed before placement.

Can my company, school, or community group volunteer together? +

Yes. We welcome coordinated service projects for employee teams, schools, faith communities, healthcare groups, and civic organizations.

Does submitting a request guarantee placement? +

No. Placement depends on current needs, location, availability, role fit, required screening, and our capacity to provide appropriate supervision.

Will volunteers provide medical advice or direct clinical care? +

No. Volunteers may not diagnose, recommend treatment, access protected health information without authorization, or perform clinical duties unless they are appropriately credentialed and formally assigned to an approved role.

YOUR NEXT STEP

Ready to turn compassion into action?

Tell us what inspires you, what you do well, and when you are available. A coordinator will review your request and typically respond within 5–7 business days.

Submitting a request does not guarantee placement. Please do not include private medical information.
